This series was a break from the metaphorical, content oriented paintings that I'd been working on for nearly twenty years. The early nineties were difficult times and I just wanted to paint without considering the meaning and subject. I did a couple figurative pieces then but mostly I chose the fauna of Florida and applied my regular painting motif to that. These paintings were fun to make even thought they aren't deeply poetic. I worked from photographs I took at zoos and nature. At the time I was living on the bayside of a barrier island off the coast of Florida and many of these animals were part of my home environment.
