Oil on wood with mixed media, 1991 - 2003
72" X 96"
This is the original painting I made in response to the first Gulf War. Note the toy soldiers on fish hooks under the image. I don't know where those are so they weren't in the recent showing of the new version. They are meant to sybolize how the troops were used as bait to gain support for the first war. Once the troops were in place, it was considered unpatriotic to question why they were put there in the first place. The media opinion polls always asked people if they supported the troops, not if they supported the war and that's what resulted in the high approval ratings.
