When Sophia turned 15 her parents wanted to capture this unique time in her life before she becomes an adult. I knew she loved reading, writing and visual art so I wanted to depict that in the portrait. When I made the reference photos of her I also photographed her notebook pages. I carefully reproduced one of her poems in her handwriting, which was as difficult as capturing her likeness. I also recreated one of her doodles. She does more refined visual art but I used the doodle because it's very idiosyncratic and represents her subconscious designing. It's a strange feeling to copy such a personal drawing. It's like being inside her head while she casually made loops and swirls. |
